Frequently asked

How does a one-time secret work?

You paste a secret and get a link. Opening the link shows a neutral page; the secret is only revealed when the recipient explicitly clicks “Reveal”. After that, it is destroyed and cannot be viewed again.

Can you recover a secret I already viewed or that expired?

No. Viewed, burned, and expired secrets are cryptographically deleted — the content is unrecoverable, including by us. Create a new one instead.

My recipient says the link is “no longer available.”

It was likely already opened, expired, or burned. Link-scanning tools in some email/chat systems can also open links — for sensitive secrets, add a passphrase so a preview cannot reveal it.

Do I need an account?

No — anyone can create a one-time secret. A free account adds a dashboard, longer expirations, API keys, notifications, and more. New sign-ups may require administrator approval.

Is there an API or CLI?

Yes. The REST API is served under /api/v1, and a secretctl command line tool is available for DevOps workflows. See your account’s API keys page.
